Grant Applications

Each year, through its grants, the Allendale Community Foundation has the opportunity and the privilege to enhance and improve the quality of life for citizens of Allendale.  Although the Foundation receives more requests for grant funding than it has the assets to underwrite, each application is carefully reviewed and assessed for its merits and qualifications. 

The Allendale Community Foundation:

  • Encourages programs which are collaborative, comprehensive, and have potential for continuity.

  • Encourages leveraging and matching grant opportunities involving multiple funding sources.

  • Supports "seed money" requests to assist innovative projects.

  • Encourages programs and projects focused on problem prevention rather than cure.

The Allendale Community Foundation generally does not fund:

  • General operating expenses

  • Private individuals

  • Profit making organizations

  • Elimination of existing financial obligations/debts/liabilities

  • Religious programs that serve, or appear to serve, specific religious faiths

  • Fund raising events

  • Requests from outside the Allendale Community

Grant Application Overview

Dear Community Friend,

Thank you for your interest in the Allendale Community Foundation and the Greatest Needs Fund Grant Application Process.

 The Allendale Community Foundation:

  • Encourages programs which are collaborative, comprehensive, and have potential for continuity.

  • Encourages leveraging and matching grant opportunities involving multiple funding sources.

  • Supports "seed money" requests to assist innovative projects.

  • Encourages programs and projects focused on problem prevention rather than cure.

Please review the Grant application guidelines below.  After review the information carefully, submit all grant materials to Allendale Community Foundation, P O Box 365, Allendale, Michigan, 49401, by the requested deadline in order to be considered for funding.

The Allendale Community Foundation reviews grants twice a year, once in April and again in October.  For your convenience we have developed a review team that can assist you with your application.  You may submit a one page summary of your proposed grant to Patricia Stephenson at stephepa@gvsu.edu to make sure your proposed program meets the grant credentials and for other areas of assistance.  All grant applications are due to the address above no later than March 1 for the April review and September 1 for the October review.

Grant Application Guidelines

Please provide the following information in the order listed.  Copy the headlines and numbers provided in your response.  Please limit your responses to a maximum of 5 pages.

  1. Grant application cover sheet:  Complete the cover sheet, click here.

  2. Purpose of grant:  Describe the program and its basic objectives.  Briefly explain why your agency is requesting the grant, what outcomes you hope to achieve, and how you will spend the funds if the grant is made.  Include a timetable.

  3. Need:  Substantiate the need for the program within the Allendale area.  Acknowledge similar existing projects or agencies, if any, and explain how your agency or proposal differs, and what effort will be made to work cooperatively.

  4. How proposal fits:  State how your proposal fits the guidelines and purpose of the Allendale Community Foundation.

  5. Population served:  Describe the population served by this program, including approximate number of people, gender, age, and ethnicity.  How are members of your target population involved in defining the problem, planning the program, and making policy?

  6. Evaluation plan:  Describe the evaluation plan your organization will use to determine if the project's basic objectives described in Item 2 have been met.

  7. Budget:  Include a detailed budget that shows specifically what is to be funded by the Allendale Community Foundation.  Please include amounts requested of other foundations, corporations, and other funding sources to which this proposal has been submitted.

  8. Other sources of funding:  If the project will be continued beyond the time period of the Foundation request, indicate other sources of funding that are or may be available to your organization for this program in the future.

  9. Organization information: your organization, its history, mission and goals, activities, programs, and accomplishments.

  10. Attachments:  Please include the following attachments.  a) a copy of the current IRS determination letter indicating 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, b) list of Board of Directors with affiliations, c) letters of support, which verify project need and collaboration with other organizations (optional), and d) annual report, if available.

Please submit 11 copies of the proposed grant application to the Allendale Community Foundation, P O Box 365, Allendale, Michigan, 49401.  All applications must be postmarked no later than March 1 for the April review and September 1 for the October review.  Please mark it to the attention of the Grant Review Team.  The review team ensures that all guidelines have been completed and that your application meets the requirements of the Allendale Community Foundation.
